Yes. You can order a full 6 or 12 pack of a single flavour, build your own mix, or take the mixed box (six comes as 2 of each, twelve comes as 4 of each). Any of those can be a one-time order or a subscription.

The Better Beast is a seasonal roast. We make it for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and because it takes a lot of time and care to make, quantities are very limited. Sign up for our emails to be the first to know when it's back in stock.

Because it doesn't need one. Our products are made and shipped frozen with one year of frozen shelf life, so there's no printed best before date by design. Nothing is wrong with your package. Every package carries a lot code that tells us exactly when it was made. Send it to us and we'll tell you the production date and how long you've got.

Ours keeps for about a year in the freezer. Once it's in the fridge, use it within 30 days. If you bought it from a store's refrigerated section, it should have had a sticker with a best before date on it. If it didn't, we'd recommend freezing it and then thawing it shortly before use.

Yes. Thaw it in the fridge and cook it from there, and it's fine to refreeze it again after thawing.

Like ground meat. Hot pan, a little oil, break it up as it browns. It takes about 5 minutes. No special skills, no new equipment. If you have a recipe you already love, it works. Our [cooking guide](/pages/cooking-guide) has the details.

Cook it to an internal temperature of 74°C. You'll know it's there when the edges have crisped and browned and it smells like dinner.

Thawing in the fridge overnight gives you the best texture. In a pinch you can cook it from frozen. Just give it a few extra minutes and break it up as it softens.

Tacos, bolognese, chili, stuffed peppers, fried rice, lasagna. Natural is a blank canvas. Italian is pre-seasoned for pasta and pizza. Chorizo brings the smoke and spice. Oyster mushrooms and pea protein. That blend is the whole idea, and it's what gives our grounds their umami and their texture. Our Natural ground has five ingredients: water, our pea protein and oyster mushroom blend, mushroom extract, chicory root powder and salt. That's it. Italian and Chorizo build on the same base with seasonings: tomato paste, parsley and spices in the Italian, and chipotle sauce and spices in the Chorizo. Oyster mushrooms bring the umami and the texture, which is the hard part of making plant-based meat you'd choose on purpose. Pea protein does the rest.

Yes. Every ingredient in our grounds, The Better Beast and Better Gravy comes from plants.

Our grounds are. Natural, Italian and Chorizo, the whole Forager's Finest line, are gluten-free. The Better Beast and Better Gravy contain wheat, so if you're avoiding gluten, stick with the grounds. If you're managing an allergy, always check the ingredient and allergen statement on the pack.

No. Pea protein comes from yellow peas, a different legume from soybeans. Soy is one of Health Canada's priority food allergens; peas aren't on that list.

No. Our products aren't certified halal or kosher.

Our products carry a "may contain cashews" statement on the label. This means they're produced in a facility that also produces products containing cashews. We do our best to make sure no cross-contamination occurs, and multiple cleaning and sanitization protocols are in place. If you're managing a nut allergy, please read the full ingredient and allergen statement on the pack before eating.

Per 100 g serving (a third of a pack), Natural has 21 g of protein, and Italian and Chorizo have 17 g each. The full nutrition panel is on every product page.

Yes. Pea protein contains all nine essential amino acids, though it's lower in methionine than some other proteins. Our Natural ground pairs it with oyster mushroom for 21 g of protein per serving.
